Construction of two new schools is currently underway:
- The second Little Heroes Academy in Diorila will be inaugurated in June, 2010.
- The Sue Taylor Middle School in Tanima will be inaugurated in September, 2010.
The dedication of our tenth school, the Cliff and Nita Bailey Middle School of Beneco, took place on January 16, 2010. The dedication ceremony was attended by Mike King representing the donor family, the Mayor of Ouelessebougou, and Salikou Sanogo, the Minister of Education. Habib Koite, renowned Malian singer and guitarist, was also in attendance and serenaded the crowd with some of his famous songs. View his performance here: www.youtube.com
A group of Utah Valley University students in the Digital Media Department along with their Professor accompanied Executive Director Yeah Samake to Mali to film a documentary of Mali Rising Foundation: www.uvu.edu
Twenty dentists, twenty OBGYN and two hygienists participated in our annual medical mission. Collectively, they performed 90 tooth extractions, oral and obstetric surgeries. These doctors were also assisted by a group of young students from Utah. In town for his third annual basketball clinic, former Mountain View, Utah Valley and BYU star Travis Hansen is helping local youngsters focus on more than their basketball skills.
Each of the 260 participants of the three-day camp, which is held at the Flash Factory in Lehi, stayed an extra half-hour on Thursday to help assemble supply kits for a school in Mali, West Africa. The campers, who range from third-graders to high school seniors, were encouraged to donate school supplies such as pencils, erasers, paper and backpacks, along with other items such as flip-flops, toothpaste and toothbrushes...

LEHI - There may be more to life than just shooting a basketball through an iron hoop.
Former BYU basketball star Travis Hansen was in Lehi on Thursday helping 260 young athletes at his 2009 Travis Hansen Charity Basketball Camp understand just that.
"We love teaching (kids) the game of basketball because of what it encompasses: hard work, sacrifice, leadership, teamwork," Hansen said. "We also wanted to show these kids what a great opportunity they have to live in America, to live in a place where they can attend school."

With a smile, Travis Hansen delivered the only rule Wednesday enforced at his basketball camp.
It turns out to be the same as the only goal: "Try your best."
But it isn't only the kids, mostly boys ages 8-17, that are learning about life and sports at the Flash Factory in Lehi through Friday.
It's also a place where some BYU basketball players can be refreshed in the lessons of what it means to be a role model carrying the valuable torch of Cougar basketball.
